Clear’s new automated e-gates are now operating at 53 airports across the United States. The company expects the technology to be available at nearly all airports where it offers its Clear Plus service by the end of the year.
The gates are designed to streamline the identity-check process for Clear members at Transportation Security Administration checkpoints. Instead of stopping at one of Clear’s blue kiosks for verification, passengers can use the automated setup to move through the process more quickly.
Previously, Clear users would leave the TSA line to have their identity verified with a photo, then be escorted to the front by a Clear employee. The process could involve delays when kiosks were unavailable or staff were occupied.
