Catherine Zeta-Jones is returning to Wales in her latest project, the AMC+ revenge thriller series “Kill Jackie.” The production marked the first time she had filmed in Wales and the first time she had performed a role using her natural accent, she said in a video interview.

Zeta-Jones was born and raised in South Wales, spending her childhood in Swansea and the nearby coastal town of Mumbles. She left for London at 16 after securing a role in the West End production of “42nd Street,” beginning a career that later took her to Hollywood.

Her film work has seen her adopt a range of accents, including Spanish in “The Mask of Zorro,” a New York sound in “No Reservations” and a Midwestern voice in “Chicago,” for which she won an Oscar.

Despite her international career, Zeta-Jones has maintained a close relationship with Wales and tries to return regularly. She and her husband, Michael Douglas, also sent their two children to stay with relatives there for several weeks each year.

She said her connection to the country remains strong because much of her family still lives there, including her parents, brother, cousins, nieces and nephews. She described them as part of a “very tight-knit community and family.”
